Richard King 1936-2018

It is with great sadness that Taunton Motoring Club has to announce the passing of one of our founding members yesterday. Richard besides being there at the formulation of our club, was instrumental in organising Rallies in the South West many at National level status. His attention to detail was second to none. This was shown in the very successful and popular Cricket st Thomas  Rallies and Hillclimbs. Whilst being only a small venue and low stage miles it attracted top level competitors from all over the country. Although  Richard had not been an active member of the club for a number of years he was always interested in what was happening in the club. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Especially some of our senior members who were lucky enough to work with him on motorsport events in the South west. There are no funeral details at the moment. As soon as they become available they will be posted here and on our Facebook page.

Merry Christmas-Happy New Year

Hi there Folks.
Well here we are nearly at the end of another year. This year has been another successful one with the club being involved in participating, organising, marshalling, and promoting a number of disciplines from Trials, Stage Rallies, Road rallies, Hillclimbs along with a very healthy social side with the Summer Driving skills and winter series of treasure hunts. At the recent Christmas Carvery at the Allerford Inn. I was pleased to announce the winners from the driving Skills. Mike Potter our president kindly agreed to present the awards. Harry Andrews 3rd overall, Gareth Andrews 2nd overall and Mike Warr taking top spot as the Overall winner. Top spot in the Juniors went to Ashlyn Mitchell. Also congratulations to both Ashlyn and Jordan for passing their Driving test in the week of the Carvery. An excellent turn out for the carvery 38 members and 3 non members. As previously The Allerford looked after us well again this year. Plenty of food even for the extra 6 that I hadn’t planned on. As we approach 2018 just a small reminder to all those members who have events in early/mid January to get their memberships in so I have time to get your cards to you before the event. Also any of you doing the winter series of treasure hunts will also need to rejoin so that you can claim your points.
Finally on behalf of Taunton Motoring Club’s Committee may I wish you all a very Happy New Year. Enjoy the celebrations.

Winter Treasure Hunts

Well Folks the treasure hunt season has started with the first one last Thursday. A great turn out with 10 crews tackling the 30 mile route. Plenty of clues and code boards to keep everybody on the right track. My thanks to Mike and Luke for the route and Jackie having to put up with all the preparations. The success of any treasure hunt is that everybody gets back to the finish which all crews did. Mike has just confirmed that he will also organise the next one on 16th November. Details to follow soon as to the start location and time. If you can spare the time to put one on please contact me through facebook or on my mobile, usual number. The plan is as previous years to run 4 before Christmas and 4 after. No confirmed dates yet for the ones after Christmas. The next three dates are as follows 16th November, 30th November and the 14th December. The last one on the 14th Dec will start and finish at the Allerford with a free buffet for club members along with the presentation of awards for the Summer Driving Skills. Last years buffet was really well attended so would like to see similar numbers this year so make sure you put that date in your calendar.

Treasure hunt 9th March

Hi there Folks. Here we are at the last round of the winter series. Round 8 is likely to start at the Beam Bridge Wellington. Sheila and I would like to thank all those who came out and supported this years series. We have managed over the last seven rounds to find some new roads by going a little farther out of town. hopefully that didn’t put too many people off. The awards presentation will take place after the AGM on the 23rd March.

***** AGM 23rd MARCH*****

AGM happening soon. The venue for the next AGM will be the Allerford near Norton Fitzwarren. ALL paid up club members welcome. Its your chance to have a say on whats happening with the club AND the perfect opportunity to join the committee and have a direct input into the clubs activities. Last year it was suggested that we need to do more with the clubs website. Sadly there were no volunteers to do this. This is a request in advance of the AGM. If you have a few hours a year to help out it would be gratefully accepted. I would like to expand our social activities but i cannot do this without help so again if there is anyone out there who would be prepared to come on the committee. The meetings are once a month for about an hour on the third Monday of the month.
The plan for the AGM is to hold the meeting from 8pm again should be no more than 45 mins after which there will be a FREE BUFFET followed by the awards presentation from the Winter series. If all who can attend let me know so i can order the right amount of food for the BUFFET. As usual message me on facebook  or text/phone on my usual number 07980 239730.
